Exhibition of Biennale für Freiburg #1
10 Sept–24 Oct 2021

The first edition of the Biennale für Freiburg (BfF #1) is convened and realized by artistic director Leon Hösl and explores the various modes of artistic production both inside and outside of the studio space. During BfF #1’s runtime, artistic processes and activities are transferred from the traditional setting of an artist’s studio towards a number of collective contexts and situations. The public space is thereby transformed into a place of production and a subject for debate.

For its inaugural edition, the BfF #1 will take place in two phases this year, the first of which has now began in May: The Studio Program. Between May and August, the Studio Program, conceived as a four-month-long phase for production, discourse and mediation, lays the groundwork for the subsequent exhibition parcours.

From September 10 to October 3 the exhibition parcours will unfold throughout various locations in Freiburg. This will lead visitors through the themes, different artistic approaches of the studio program and translates ephemeral processes from the public space back into the exhibition. More than a mere presentation of final results, the exhibition provides insight into networks of artistic collaboration, connects different thematic strands, and thus offers starting points for future editions of the Biennale for Freiburg.

The Kunstverein Freiburg is one of the venues of the exhibitions parcours. The exhibition of Biennale für Freiburg at Kunstverein Freiburg will be on display until October 24, 2021. For more information on the exhibition and event program of BfF #1, click here.
