Film Screening
Blue (Derek Jarman, 1993)
Location: Kommunales Kino
Mon, 16 Oct 2023, 7.30 pm
Without a doubt, Derek Jarman’s film Blue is one of the great challenges in film history. The artist resolutely confronts his illness, which is slowly causing him to go blind and which inevitably leads to death, with a screen that is open on all sides – it is blue, and nothing else.
But through the soundtrack, which is a powerful poem of sounds, texts and music and creates exciting cross-references between personal biography, history and current events, the film creates its own space and invites each viewer to project their own imaginary film into the resulting open spaces.
