Talk to me
23 Nov 2018–6 Jan 2019

Whether in private or in public, dialogue is an essential part of interaction and knowledge transfer. Via traditional semiotic systems, rhetorical devices and invisible processes, a permanent dissemination and transfer of information takes place.

With this as a starting point, the exhibition Talk to me brings together multimedia works that engage with disparate forms of dialogue. Central to the exhibition is the theme of communication as the key to understanding and misunderstanding the world. With this in mind, the collected works reflect on social structures and explore the interactive, sensual, linguistic, technical and digital possibilities and dependencies of two-way communication. Handwriting takes on a life of its own as oversized objects, a pause oscillates between isolation and confrontation, emotions are transformed into digital signals, scents convey individual sensations and materials become resonating bodies for the soundscape of our everyday lives. Each artwork exhibited represents a distinct examination of the possibilities of unconventional modes of communication. Whilst the possibilities of sending and receiving have multiplied in the digital age, the works on display form a feedback loop with our everyday experiences to question, among other things, how information is produced and relayed. They focus on misunderstandings, disruptions and irritations that can arise during information transfer.

Under the title Talk to me, this year’s Regionale exhibition at Kunstverein Freiburg brings together eleven artists from the tri-border area between Basel, Strasbourg and Freiburg. They were selected from over 670 applicants for the 19th edition of the trinational project, in which 19 exhibition venues are participating.
