The Sun To Come
23 Nov 2019–5 Jan 2020

Life on planet earth exists under the influence of the sun. The sun provides light and warmth, its relationship to the earth determines the seasons and the alternation of day and night. What would happen if these relationships and regularities were disturbed and the earth span under a different star? During a solar eclipse, the moon passes in front of the sun: light wanes, stillness dominates, the wind rises. For a few minutes, it feels like having been transferred to another planet.

Based on the video The Sun To Come by Anouk Moyaux, the exhibition in Kunstverein Freiburg uses this dislocation to assemble diverse parallel worlds, alternative realities and escapist realms. Be it as blueprints for the future, utopias of the past, in challenging the idea of humans as the only intelligent species, in exploring unfamiliar life forms, or the desire for self-fulfillment and security in tranquil bubbles. Works in various media, audible spaces and spatial shifts render the supposedly familiar in an alien light.

The Regionale is a border-defying project that is unique in this regard. As each year comes to a close, eighteen institutions in three countries display artistic perspectives from the trijunction between Switzerland, France and Germany.
